Originally from New York's Capital District, Dr. Reffue has taught numerous classes in both human communication and the mass media at Syracuse University, Jefferson Community College (NY) and Herkimer County (NY) Community College. Since 1995, Dr. Reffue has served on the faculty of Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL, where he is the college's senior faculty member in communications and a former communication department chair. His professional clients have included numerous political candidates in need of an overall message strategy, business professionals from a variety of areas seeking public speaking and corporate communications assistance, students needing individual tutoring to overcome their communication apprehension, and many more. Dr. Reffue's flexibility and ability to connect with the people he serves on their level is what sets him apart from his peers.

Dr. Reffue holds a bachelors degree in communications from Rider University (NJ), a masters degree in speech communication from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of South Florida. Dr. Reffue continues to actively pursue the academic study of communication. He has been a regular presenter at the annual National Communication Association convention. His doctoral dissertation, A Rhetoric of Sports Talk Radio, was the first long-form academic analysis of one of the world's fastest growing forms of popular mass media. The eighth edition of his textbook Speak to Succeed (Allyn and Bacon/Pearson) was released in August 2014.
